Happy to Report....

that the anniversary album is officially finished!!!  Yay!!!  Susan and I both did two LO's each today!  Now our next task will be to put together an 8x8 album void of photos.  My mother can put in photos taken on the night we celebrate.  We are happy to move onto a new format even though we are getting tired of using these same papers.

Here is a peek!

Hope you are all having a great week with some scrappy time!

Sketch #113

A new sketch is up at ......

It was a challenge with it being a three photo sketch.  Time for some creative thinking!   I rarely have three photos that go together.  I used a mix of papers here.  I am loving that background paper from MME "Stella & Rose".  I bought a few extra sheets and plan on using it again and again.  Loved finally getting my hands on some of those Maya Road kraft doilies and mini tickets.  They sold out before the LSS even announced their arrival on their blog, but lucky for me Susan lives close and stalks this place on a regular basis so she picked them up for me!  Thanks Susan!  :)  The little doily and butterflies are from the new Cosmo Cricket lines.  They are so much fun and lots of bang for your buck at $2 a package.  FYI Susan figured out that the little butterflies layer wonderfully on top of the small Martha Stewart butterfly punched butterflies.  I have to try this out!

Here is the sketch and I hope you'll consider playing along with us this week. :)

Tomorrow is a scrappy day for me and Susan, working on the anniversary album.  Just finished my "homework" today.  The dreaded collage page is done but, we each have another waiting for us tomorrow. :(  Someone asked me when we will be posting this album.  The anniversary isn't until mid July, so we will be posting it shortly thereafter.  Susan and I are dreaming up  how we can make this "reveal" fun for our loyal followers who have been so gracious in commenting on all of our peeks.  We will keep you posted!  :)

Waiting for Spring

Hello bloggy friends.  There hasn't been much scrapping going on around here.  My mojo seems to have left me.  The "homework" assignment for the anniversary album waiting for me may have something to do with this.  Hmm  Why am I not excited about a 5 photo collage on Prima papers! ;)  Maybe tomorrow inspiration will strike me. :)

So what have I been up to as I wait for the flurries and bitter wind to stop and for some sign of spring to show itself?

Knitting this springy dishcloth.

Reading this great character novel.

Shopping at the LSS.  Yes I am full of hot air!  I talked a good game of using up the stash until I came face to face with some of the amazing new releases. ;)  In my defense, some of this is My Little Shoebox from the sale bin at $0.25 a sheet!  Score!!!  I really need to just stay away from the LSS but then I would miss out on all the great stuff going into the sale bins to make room for the new stuff.  I'm torn!! ;)

Lastly, in the true nature of springtime, I have been organizing.  First I re-organized my blog.  Yay for finally figuring out how to add tabs and finding the yummy new fonts available on Blogger.  Then I was onto the studio.  It had been looking a bit messy as of late.   Two major improvements have occurred.  I re-organized my entire floss collection by colour instead of number.  It will be much easier to find the colour I am looking for.  The number system worked better for cross-stitching but not so much for scrapping.  Then I finally made tags for the shoe pockets that house my punches.  No more 20 guesses before I find the punch I am looking for!  Clear coloured pockets would have been more effective but I couldn't resist this black and white unit that I bought last year when I was revamping the studio. It matched the studio so well. :)

Hope you all are enjoying your scrappy spaces.  Any major organization going on?

Thank you for all the wonderful advice and tips regarding my twine dilemma.  I so appreciate these tips and will be carefully considering them all!  I did use some of the precious twine on the punch tags. hee hee  Tying twine seems to be my specialty!

A Glimpse of Light, Twine and Staples!

Susan and I think we saw it today.... just a glimpse.  No, it wasn't the sun.  It is still winter here with snow again today. :(  The glimpse was the light at the end of the tunnel...... the album is coming to the end!  Not that we aren't enjoying working on this but, we find we are getting sick of working with the same basic lines of paper with the same colour palette.  We can't believe the dent that we have put in the paper supply. This also means that lots of the good stuff is used up.  There is some pretty busy paper that is hard to work with left to use.

Today we each finished a LO.  Susan has brought one home to do for "homework" and I have one that is in it's beginning stages that I will finish this week.  We only have about 3 more meetings to finish this project!  Next up will be to put together an 8x8 album that my mother can fill with her 4x6 photos from her celebration.

Here are some peeks.  I bought a new lattice punch yesterday and love the springtime fresh look of this.

I would like to share my thoughts on twine.  I have a new respect and am totally in awe of scrappers who rock twine!!  I see LO's by Sarah and Kim where their twine seems to float beautifully throughout their LO's guiding the viewer's eye easily through the page. It seems to curl in the perfect spots and their bows are perfect!  Hmmm  My twine doesn't look like this.  My bows seem to twist and the twine tails just hang. :(  Is there a twine stiffening agent that I am unaware of?

Next I tried to figure out how people adhere twine to their pages.  Some twine seems to mysteriously stick to the page.  Is it invisible glue?  Imagining the mess I could make with glue, I decided to invest in a Tim Holtz mini stapler.  After I bought it, I realized that Michael's sells it and I could have gotten it cheaper with a 40% off coupon.  :(  I decided that I had better stock up on staples in case they suddenly stopped making them, rendering my stapler useless.  Apparently, I never read the fine print on things.  Each box contains 1550 staples. Hmm 1500x2 boxes plus the 100 that came with the stapler equals.... a whole lot of staples!!  So I have some serious stapling to get done. ;) Mind you, I did order a life time supply of twine so maybe this is alright.  The stapler only goes into the page a few inches, so twine needing to be stapled needs to be strategically placed.  Susan pointed out that my staples where not sitting at equal angles. Opps  I pulled them out and started again.  Thankfully, mini staples leave mini holes so I decided to consider this a "distressing" technique.  (I'm an artist! hee hee)

Needless to say, I have some learning to do about twine and stapling.  Is there a "Stapling 101" class or "Twine Usage for Dummies" book?  Any tips on this subject would be very much appreciated.  I really need to rock these supplies so my big sister and husband stop laughing at me! ;)

I'm hoping to get some more scrapping done this week.  I have made a couple of visits to the LSS this past week and am wanting to play with some new stuff.  It was definitely easier to say that I would not buy new stuff, before all the new goodies hit the shelves. ;)  Time to get back on track!

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)

About Lady

This is a totally non scrappy post so I understand if some of you choose to opt out.

I have been asked to write a small story, a happy "tail", about Lady.  It is for the Alberta Dachshund Rescue newsletter.  I adopted Lady through this society.  I have decided to post this on my blog so I will have a record of the story of Lady.

(I promise there will be no pictures of dogs in hats. hee hee)

The Story of Lady

Lady's story starts off sad but ends on a very happy note.  She was abandoned out in the country, along with her four Chihuahua friends, this past August.  Luckily, a kind passerby initiated the rescue of this precious pack and they all came to Sheri at the ADR.  After all necessary health procedures, Lady was ready for her next journey.

Lady landed in an amazing foster home.  Here she had the love of Nadine and her little Dachshund friend, Abby.  She was bought a special little stool which she loved to sit on. (Abby had one too!)  Nadine started teaching Lady things like doing stairs, walking on a leash, going potty outside and that most people are good.

Lady came to my home in early November.  Here she joined my pack.  Gus is a 6 year old Poodle/Bichon cross and Maggie is a 5 year old Bichon/Schitzu cross.  Lady, my little poodle with just a hint of Chihuahua ( I think) makes three!!

When Lady first arrived, she was a very shy girl.  I am sure that yet another change was hard on her.  She was missing Abby.  I knew that this would be her forever home and the last major change that she would have to face.  She would sit with her head hanging low and liked to sit alone in her kennel.  Gentle invites to join the family helped.  Lady was very stressed and jumped at the smallest sound.  She didn't enjoy walks.  Between having the leash on and hearing sudden noises, it was a stressful event for her.  She didn't like venturing out to the backyard and so I would carry her and stay with her.  She refused to join Gus and Maggie in the best part of the day - morning cuddle time in my bed.

Lady soon decided that I was the one person who she could trust.  She still wasn't sure of my husband and daughter and was nervous if anyone came into the house.  After three weeks of my husband being the sole "treat giver", Lady decided that he was a good guy.  My daughter won her over by giving her the best head massages.  Still one of Lady's favourite things!

It was so amazing to watch Lady's progress over time.  Before we knew it, she was with the family.  She was running up a flight of stairs in a flash.  She was relaxed on her walks, sniffing and enjoying the outdoors.  She was happy to join the pack in the backyard for potty time.  She knew that morning bed cuddling time was the best!

Lady's kennel used to be a huge part of her world.  Even as she left it more, she would hoard away stuffies and other items that she would find around the house - usually plastic containers from the recycling bin. ;)  These days, her kennel is where she sleeps at night and might take a nap in during the day.  Her stuffies now sit in her bed.  We think that she thinks they are her babies.  She doesn't spend as much time moving them around and organizing them.

Lady is thriving!  She is a healthy weight. She is a happy girl whose tail wags if I even look at her.  She is enjoying life!  She is the most affectionate dog I have had.  We are making up for all the love she missed out on in her earlier days.  She is still cautious of people that she doesn't know but, given time for that person to prove that they are gentle, she is their new best friend.

We have learned some interesting things about Lady.  She loves all dogs.  She stops and greets every dog that we meet on our walks.  She is a snorer!  How can a little Poodle out snore a grown man?  She loves toast.  She just has to hear the toaster and she comes running.  She is a pushy girl.  She lets us know that she is needing some love by putting her paw on our faces.  Yes, dominating us.  What would Cesar Milan say? ;)  Lastly, Lady is my crafting assistant.  She likes to sit on my shoulder as I knit.  If I am at my craft table scrapbooking, she sits on my lap.

I want to send out a big thank you to all of the people who had a hand in helping Lady on her journey.  I so appreciate all of your work and effort.  I feel very blessed to have this wonderful little pup in my life.  She adds so much to our pack and family and we love her dearly.

Sketch #112

It's Monday so it's time for a new sketch at......

I cut into my new BG "Hello Luscious" papers for this one.  I knew that this was a paper line that I definitely would invest in.  I do love me some Basic Grey.  So I scrapped those crazy photos of the pups wearing the knit charity hats.  Crazy dog lady????  I think so!  Before anyone decides to call the Humane Society on me, I promise that this will be the end of my silly pups wearing hats.  Well.... for awhile anyway. ;)  Rob asked me the other night, if I am losing followers due to the amounts of dog photos on this blog.  hee hee

Here is the sketch!  Hope you will play along for this month's prize!

Week #11 Challenge

I have finally completed this week's challenge!!

Challenge #47:  Highlight - don't hide - an imperfect shot.

Well this was the perfect challenge for me, considering that my camera is still giving me grief.  Rob took this photo of the bride at the wedding we attended last month.  Although it was not a long distance shot, the picture came out somewhat blurry and had a bit of a double image.  I decided to add to the blur with some photo editing and give it a bit of a wedding bliss misty look!  It's an artsy kinda thing. ;)

I was happy to use some BG "Cappella" on this.  Such a classy line of paper.

Here is the sketch I used by the talented Julie Bonner.  Just loved the simplicity of this sketch and it was so perfect for this photograph.

I hope I have inspired you to scrap some of your favourite memories that you have less than perfect photos for.  I remember seeing in a scrappy magazine how a person had used a blurry photo and titled the LO "Life is a Blur."  I thought that was so creative.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

My second post today!  I forgot to send out my wishes for a Happy St. Patrick's Day to all!  Here are some little furry friends to help relay the message!

Hee Hee  I know, I really need a life. ;)  My nephew Matt bought hats for all our families' pets.  Too much fun!!  Susan's cat Stripo seems to be the only one who escaped an embarrassing photo shoot.  Stripo must have the luck of the Irish on his side.  You can see Tabby's lovely photo here.  I really need to stop putting hats on my dogs.

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)

Oh Happy Scrappy Days

Susan and I had two wonderful days of scrappy goodness!  We scrapped for two days solid, other than to stop to eat and sleep.  We got so much accomplished and had lots of fun too!  We each completed three LO's and have to just put on finishing touches on our fourth.  We feel so pleased to have gotten so far on this album.  We could have scrapped longer but figured that at some point we should return to our families and participate in real life. ;)  Besides, the pups had ingested enough paper scraps!

Here are some peeks, featuring two very sweet faces!  Diane is in one and my nephew Chris is the other little cutie. :)

On another happy note, my twine arrived from The Twinery!  Yay!!  I can't wait to start using it on my LO's.  Not today though.  I think I need some scrappy recovery time. ;)

Sketch #111

It is Monday, so that means that there is a new sketch up at.....

I decided to scrap some pictures of Thomas!  Love the look of concentration on his face.  He is busy learning!  I used some October Afternoon "Thrift Shop" papers here.  I added small touches of red for a pop!

Here is the sketch!

Come and play along this week!  Nothing better than a great linear sketch. :)

Well, today is a domestic day of cleaning and laundry. BOO to that!  But..... tomorrow and Wednesday are total scrappy days with Susan, working on the anniversary album.  It will be a scrappy good time! :)

Have a great week with hopefully some spring weather and time for creating.

Like a Lion

Just finished one more LO done with my counterfeit kit.  Love this photo of my Lady yawning.  She looks just like a lion!  It was the perfect opportunity to use this OA vintage card.  Quite the mix of papers here, Pink Paislee, Cosmo Cricket and Making Memories.

I used this week's sketch up today at Creative Scrappers.

It is finally starting to warm up here in Alberta.  It was actually above freezing!!  It was so awesome to get out and walk the pups in warm weather.  Can spring be just around the corner?  I am so craving the sounds and smells of springtime, trips to the greenhouse, Scrabble games on the balcony and the return of our feathered friends.  Soon I hope. :)

Card Making

URGH!!  I don't know why making a card is such a daunting task for me.  It is such a tiny space to embellish and I love embellishing.  So why does it take me about an hour to make one simple card?
Here are the creations using up the very last scraps of BG "Hopscotch" and my Cuttlebug!!  :)

Next on the scrappy front will be to make another LO from my counterfeit kit.  Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

The Sister's Challenge and a Mini Blog Hop

I love a challenge!  I find it a great way to motivate myself and it is always fun to be working on something in a group.  Susan had a great idea.  She suggested that we both do a LO using the same photo.  We decided on a sweet picture of our nephew Thomas.  A great muse is always a good beginning.  It doesn't get any cuter than Thomas!

We didn't have any rules for this challenge, other than the fact that we have not shared anything about our paper choices, sketches or ideas.  Here is my take.  :)

Isn't that photo just the sweetest?  That pout is just too cute!  This LO is totally me.  It is busy, it is over embellished and I love it.  hee hee.  I even used some Sassafrass that I have had for ages.  For me, the key to this manufacturer is using it in small doses.

I used an older sketch from The Scrappiest.

So now I am going to hop on over to Susan's blog to see her take on this sweet photo.   I love that our styles are so different.  It is so much fun to see how differently we are inspired by the same thing.  We are planning future challenges using the same sketch or maybe even the same supplies.  So hop on over with me to Susan's blog!!  :)  This just may be the smallest blog hop in Blogger history. ;)

It's Just the Way We Roll

The White Sisters had another great day spent in a scrapping daze!  Two more LO's completed for the anniversary album!  Yay!!  My LO was one of those love/hate relationships but in the end it was all good.  We also managed a trip to Michael's to use our 40% off coupon and had lunch at the DQ.

Hmm Things I have learned today......  My hand made gold lamee flowers look like crap compared to store bought chipboard flowers.  Jute, gems and pearls can be mixed together and work.   Lastly, when I can't find my piercing pad, it is likely sitting under my LO!!

Just for fun I decided to take a photo of my scrappy area and Susan's scrappy area.  I guess it is just the way we roll.  Hard to believe we shared a bedroom growing up.  Poor Susan. ;)

Here is Susan's.  So neat and organized.  I bet she would have no trouble finding a thing in her area.

Here is mine.  hee hee  Hey, where is my piercing pad????

Here are a few peeks of today's accomplishments.  That cute little smiley face is my brother Andrew.

The scrappy sleepover is next week and we are hoping on getting 3 to 4 LO's done each.  We do need to take time out to eat and sleep and we have promised Robert a few games of Aggravation.  It will be so much fun!

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)

Counterfeit Challenge Creation

Just wanted to share my first LO made with my main counterfeit kit.  I am totally loving this kit! Once again the kit challenge is helping me to mix some papers that I would never have thought would go together. In hopes of mixing things up a bit in my scrappy world,  I finally made an 8.5 x 11 LO.  Surprisingly enough, it was quite a challenge.  I did enjoy the process though and plan on doing more.

This LO is also for my weekly challenge!

Challenge #48  Write or stamp directly on a photo.

I decided to put my journaling on my photo using the free edit feature on Picnik.  I have always loved the look of journaling or a title on a photo.  This is one of my favourite photos of Mo.

Here is the sketch I used from Page Maps.

Before I leave I have to give inspirational credit to Melissa Mann.  I love how she uses negative space and had fun playing with my circular punches the way I have noticed she has on some of her work.

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)

Sketch #110

The new sketch is up at The Scrappiest!  It is my first reveal on the DT.  A very exciting day indeed.  :)  It was so much fun to look at all of the different interpretations of this sketch.  I am honored to be amongst such talented ladies!

Here is my take.

I used some MME "Fine and Dandy".  I am totally in love with this entire collection and am sad to see it quickly depleting.  Since I am finished "Sweetie's" album, I might keep this LO for myself.  I almost feel guilty though.  It may end up going to my friend after all.  He just looks so darn cute in these photos!!!

Here is the sketch.

I am one day away from owning the new BG "Hello Luscious"  papers!  Susan is picking them up for me today at the LSS near her house.  Tomorrow is "Scrappy Tuesday" to work on the anniversary album, so she is bringing them over to me!  Thank you Susan.  On a side note, we are having so much fun scrapping together than we have decided that even when the album is done, we will continue to meet once a week to do something crafty!  We will have card making days and maybe even a few knitting days.  One of our future plans is to learn to knit socks so we have decided to tackle this together.  Two brains are better than one!

Wishing you all a wonderful day with some time for something crafty!!  I also want to give a sincere thank you to all of you who visit my blog to read up on the ramblings of my life.  I totally enjoy reading your comments.  It feels so great to be a part of this amazing sisterhood of scrappers!  :)

It Amazes Me

I'm playing along with The Counterfeit Kit Challenge again this month!  I love, love, love the entire concept of this site! It has me so excited about my stash.  :)  This month they are featuring the 5 kits at Studio Calico.  The funny thing is that I had looked at these kits a few days earlier and thought of how beautiful they are.  Little did I know that I had practically the same kits down in the studio!!  hee hee  It still amazes me that I can put together beautiful kits with what I have on hand.

Here is the main kit.

My version of this kit!

I looked at the patterned paper on the top row second in from the left.  It reminded me of the CC "Earth Love" line.  I had bought a double pack of that on sale for $6 regularly $30!  This one sheet was my starting point.  I would have never thought to mix some vibrant orange to this mix but I love the look!

I decided to duplicate one of the add on kits.  Since I am still totally in love with any blues and yellows, it was an easy decision to choose this one.

Here is my kit!

I did have the one piece of the new Stella and Rose paper. In my efforts to use up the stash, I only bought two full sheets of this collection as well as the 6x6 paper pack.  Just a taste of this line as it reminds me so much of the Crate "Restorations" line. I remembered that I had a CC paper that reminded me of the look of the bottom right paper in the kit.  It was fun to mix this with some of last years MME.  I added in two of the small sheets of the Stella and Rose paper that is in the original kit.  Might be handy for making embellishments.

My next step will be to choose the photos to go with my new kits.  I never end up doing any of the challenges or blog hop on the site.  I tend to get so excited about my new kits that I use them up before the challenges are posted!!  I'm okay with that because I am just happy to be using up my supplies on hand.

Speaking of scrapping frugal, this is the perfect time of year to look in the sale bins at the LSS!  So much great stuff in there at a fraction of the price.  They are making room for all of the new stuff from CHA.  Susan and I hit two stores on Friday and were amazed at the paper we found for $0.20 and $0.25!  It was a fun day!

I will leave you with a little Easter eye candy.  These large eggs are so pretty that I just had to take a picture to remember them.  They may be disappearing one by one far before Easter arrives!

Wishing you all a great Sunday, hopefully relaxing with family and friends!

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)
