Card Making Day

Susan and I had so much fun today making cards!!  I am not a card maker, so by getting together to do this it disciplines me to stay on task and not wander off to do yet another LO. ;)  I have to admit that I was really getting in the groove and I am feeling stoked to get more cards made.  Scraplifting design's from card making magazines seems to work for me. ;)  I have been saving paper scraps all organized into easy to use packets for about three years.  I have enough scraps for a lifetime supply of cards!!  Here is a peek at mine.

I'm off to watch a bit of hockey.  I'm not really a hockey fan but, the last two Canadian teams left in the playoffs are at an important point tonight, so it is exciting even for me.  hee hee

The Scrappiest Sketch #117

Liz has this week's sketch posted and it's a fun one!  I love how unique this one is with the border element floating at the top of the page.

Here is  my take featuring my Brother Andrew's beautiful dog, Mia.

I had fun playing with BG papers for this one, using a mix of "Curio" and "Hello Luscious".  I used my Martha seal punch to create the banner border.

Hope you get a change to play along this week. :)

On a non-scrappy front, we are having some lovely spring weather here.  Rob is going to clean off the balcony and patio today so we can start sitting out and enjoying this amazing season.  The slough is thawing at a good rate and the geese and ducks are merrily sharing the thawed out water sections.  We even spotted our friendly neighbourhood muskrat out for his nightly sunset swim!  We have been walking the pups and doing a bit of bird watching too.  We spotted a downey woodpecker the other day.  Hope you are all enjoying wonderfully warm spring days!  :)

The Scrappiest #116

Liz has a new sketch up today!  I really enjoyed this one!!  Lots of opportunity for some fun border work!  Here is the sketch!!  Hope you play along!!  :)

I used Crate paper's "Portrait" collection.  This line is so wonderful with it's vintage vibe and touches of black.  Just love it!

I found this photo of Diane that I had taken last year.  I am always happy to scrap photos of the girls!  I love the soft look of this photo as the light was coming in from the window behind her.

Hope you all have a fun day planned!  I am about to embark on some domestic duties.  My cleaning and laundry awaits me.  Boo ~ I'd rather be scrapping!!  ;)

Bo Bunny Goodness

Just a quick post to share the LO I made using the Bo Bunny line, Gabrielle.  These papers are not my usual style but I really liked the vintage feel and teal colour in this line.

I was lucky enough to find this sketch by Julie Bonner!  Julie made it for MCS this month.  Their kit features the Gabrielle line.

Here is my LO featuring me, Susan and Andrew as kids.  I love this photo.

The background paper that I used for this is a straight scraplift of Julie's take on the sketch.  I am so glad that I saw Julie's LO as I would have never realized how this sketch allows the beautiful brown damask pattern of this paper to really shine.  I am forever in awe of Julie's creativity!

As much as this LO is not my usual style, I was happy to play with a different style and find such a unique sketch.  I even used some Prima flowers!  That almost never happens around here, not to mention that there is not a single button on my LO! hee hee

Just Another Spring Day in Alberta

This morning it started snowing.  Just when almost all of the snow had melted and the streets weren't quite so muddy. :(  No surprise though.  It does this every April and sometimes in May too.  So who wants to move to Alberta?   I should probably call Susan to make sure that she and her family have not  escaped back to Quebec. ;)

Here is the view from my kitchen.  Somewhat bleak.

This morning was grooming time for Gus and Maggie so I had a very slippery drive on very slick roads.  Passed two accidents and what should have been a 15 minute drive turned into a 30 minute drive. :(  But, the day got better as I escaped to the studio to work on my next LO for The Scrappiest.  While working on this LO I got the brain wave to post some tips on hand sewing!   It is really "sew" easy!! hee hee

Here is what I know about hand stitching.  I learned these tips from cross stitching magazines, back in the day when I was passionate about cross stitching.

~ Try to use DMC floss.  It is the best quality, has the best sheen and the best variety of colours.  It just feels better to stitch with it.

~ Cut the length of your floss 18 inches maximum.  I don't even cut mine this long.  Probably more like a foot.  Longer threads get tangled.  The thread will also wear a bit as it is sewn with so then the stitches made using the end of the floss will appear thinner.

~ Before threading your needle, take apart each of the 6 fibers in the thread.  Then put then back together, using however many you desire for the look you are going for.  (I usually go for all 6.)  By taking the time to do this, your thread will knot up less and your stitches will look smoother.  I have to admit that I have been a bit lazy with the stitching on my LO's and have been skipping this step.  Today, I did it the right way and my stitching looked better.

~ Every once in a while, or if you feel that your thread is knotting up a bit, just drop your needle.  It will just spin around and this will allow the threads to go back to where they should be.  Seasoned stitchers know how to do this little "one quarter twist thing" for each stitch they make.  This ensures that they never get a knot.  I never quite mastered this move. ;)

~ Don't worry if the stitching doesn't look perfect!  Take a good look at my stitching and it is never perfect!  I'm more about the "homespun" look!  That's my story and I'm sticking to it. ;)  Trying to pierce holes for a circle or make x's for stitches with a certain little "Lady" on my lap sometimes has something to do with this.  ;)  I'm fine with it not looking perfect.  I call it artistic license!

So this is all I know to share.  Now ask me about machine sewing and all I could tell you would be to keep your machine under your desk far out of sight and use it as little as possible to avoid stress.  hee hee

I hope you will consider giving hand stitching a try.  It is an economical way to add some dimension and detail to your LO.  It may take a bit of time, but I never want to rush through my LO's.  Far better to slow down and enjoy the process.  Stitching is very relaxing once you get the hang of it.

A New Sketch!

Monday means a new sketch up at The Scrappiest!  Loved this multi photo linear sketch with lots of opportunity to embellish.  Here it is.

Here is my take featuring once again the lovely Lady. {sigh}  Soon I will be out taking nature photos. :)

I used some MME papers of last year for this.  I love the soft feel of this palette.

It is another warm day for us in Alberta!   The slough is slowly melting and the Canadian Geese have returned.  They fly in daily only to land on the snow and then beak at each other.  Someone is in trouble for leaving the warm south too early. ;)   Yesterday we had a flock of Seagulls on the frozen slough.  I haven't seen that before.  Now I just have to wait for the songbirds to arrive.  I am so looking forward to hearing their happy chirping. :)

Wishing you all a wonderful Monday!

Easter Cards

Just a quick post to share the two cards that I made this morning for the two little men in my life.   They went together very fast.  I plan on trying my hand at more Easter cards for the big people in my life.  Wish me luck!!  Cards are not easy for me. ;)

Another Post

Here I am back again,  posting for the second time today.   I just finished my last LO with my counterfeit kit.   The kit is basically done.  Just some scraps left to make some cards at a future date.  Oh, it was fun!  Maybe now I will rejoin my family and I still really need to clean this house!  Yes, the dirt is still here waiting for me. ;)

Here is my LO featuring the "lovely Lady".

I couldn't resist buying this sticker sheet from the MME "Stella & Rose" collection when I saw that "lovely lady" banner.  Just too perfect.  I am really happy with the soft feel of this LO.  I also decided to gather all of my "Lady" LO's and compile them into their own album.  I have already done 10 LO's of this little one not to mention a few more that have family members in them but Lady is still the major theme of the LO.  Okay, I think I need to find some more muses for my photography!!

The sketch that I used is from a site that I just found today while looking at Karen's blog!  The site is run by Shimelle.  She posts a new sketch each week.  You can find the site here.  Here is this week's sketch!

Today I tried my hand at some more still life photography.  I guess this is the next step when your grown children grumble when you take their pictures and the dogs have too many LO's!!  ;)  Here are a few of my faves.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend with lots of time with family and friends and maybe some time for creating too!!

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)

A Beautiful Day

It is another lovely spring day in my neck of the woods.  The snow is melting every day and very soon I am thinking that the puddles will dry up!  Spring days are bittersweet when you have three little pups.  As much as you want to walk out and enjoy the beautiful weather,  the clean up of 12 muddy paws, three muddy/sandy underbellies and a muddy entrance usually takes longer than the actual walk. {sigh} The walk usually wins out. :)

I am still playing with my counterfeit kit.  Last night I made LO#3.

I have to say that there is a very different process for me, in scrapping a kit.  I look at an array of papers and then try to find a photo to work.  This B&W has been waiting to be scrapped for quite some time.  I would look at it and couldn't think of a paper line to work with it.  When I looked at these papers last night, the photo just jumped out to be scrapped!  It was fun to do a LO where the journaling had nothing to do with the actual photo, but rather just a general thought or belief.

Here is the sketch I used by Julie Bonner.  Love all the circles in this!

Today I have to decide if I will tend to my very neglected house or scrap. Hmmm The kit is calling my name and scrapping may win out.  Besides, scrapping will make it a joyful day.  hee hee

Sure Signs of Spring

Spring is definitely upon us!  Yay for that and good-bye winter!!   The signs of spring are springing up all over the place...

around the house...

on the blog...

love me some flowers in the header for the warm season.  I also wanted a warm colour.  Good-bye blue!!

But.... one of the sure signs of spring is when I put a butterfly banner on a LO!  Nothing says spring like stringing up butterflies by their wings!!  hee hee  I did it last year and found myself doing it again today.

Here is my second LO made with my counterfeit kit.  I love the busy piece of BG paper from the "Urban Prairie" collection.  I also used some paper from Echo Park's "A Good Life".  I was super excited to realize that I actually had a piece of card stock to match this palette.  I don't use much card stock but am challenging myself to pick up a couple of sheets each time I pop into the LSS to get a supply on hand.  I wanted this LO to be somewhat clean and simple and card stock always helps this goal along.

Here is the sketch I used by Jana Eubank.

Hope spring is in all of your backyards too!!   Create something with butterflies!!  :)

Counterfeit Kit LO

It has been a scrappy kinda day!  My second post today.  I haven't gotten much else accomplished but it has been fun.  :)

Here is my first LO created with the kit I put together this morning.  I didn't use a sketch for this but rather scraplifted a LO done by Julie Bonner.  You can see Julie's amazing work here.  I always enjoy Julie's creations and she is a constant source of inspiration to me.  I scrapped another photo of my niece, Emily.

I really enjoyed embellishing this.  I enjoyed doing lots of clusters.  I seem to be in a twine rut!!  Time to stop wrapping this stuff around tags.  hee hee  Who knew that twine would be such a thorn in my side!!  ;)

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen

April Counterfeit Kit Challenge

This month's challenge has just been posted today and it is a "gooder"!!  I am extremely happy about this choice as it mimics the ever so popular colours in the "Portrait" and "For the Record" paper lines.

Here is the kit by a new club called, "Front Porch Kits".

Here is my kit!

Lots of goodness in here and I love the touches of black.  One of the sneak peeks at The Counterfeit Kit Club site showed a piece of paper from BG's "Urban Prairie".  I had a few sheets of this line so this was my jumping off point.  Some of the sale MLS papers went great for this challenge.  The actual kit had lots of ribbons and fibers.  In the true spirit of counterfeiting, I added one piece of yellow ribbon to my kit. ;)  I actually have an idea of how I may use it.   I cut out the trees and birds with my Cricut using my "Serenade" cartridge.  I punched the black butterflies with my MS punch.  I only pilfered one piece of paper from my "Portraits" collection pack, for this project.  I am coveting these papers for a bit. ;)  I was happy to achieve this look using older stuff from my stash!   So, if you are loving "For the Record" and can't find it (like me) give this challenge a try!!  The new design team is up and running and I am curious to see what fun we have in store for us this month!

A New Sketch and Some "Daily Junque"

It is Monday, which means that Liz has a new sketch up for us at....

Here is my take using the new Crate Paper Collection "Toy Box".  I so love this collection for little boys.  The line has so many fun elements that can be cut out, altered and layered.  This LO of little Tom went together very quickly.  It is so weird when that happens and a LO almost scraps itself!

Here is the sketch.   Hope you find some time to play along!!

Last night I played with the last papers of my "Daily Junque" stash.  I didn't buy much of it.  Just one of each sheet to have a taste!  I'm not always successful with this strategy.  For example, "Stella and Rose" has me going back for more and more. ;)  It was fun to do another 8.5 x 11 LO.  I wanted to use that sheet of paper with all the fun graphics down the side.  I added a few things on top to give it more of a layered look.  I was happy to finally find the perfect paper to scrap this photo of my niece, Emily.  I took this photo last October so it has been waiting to be scrapped for quite some time.

It is still feeling a bit like springtime in my neck of the woods. I did however, see a  few flurries today.  Fresh flowers for the house always helps to bridge the gap of waiting time. :)

For anyone who has followed me for awhile, you may remember a similar flower arrangement that I posted on my blog last spring.  The photo was one of my blog headers at one point.  We bought Gerbas and grass at the flower shop where the original was purchased.  I had the fun of putting it into the vase that I had saved.   Apparently, this flower shop will really lower their  price if you bring back the original containers to use.  I love it when people come up with these great "green" ideas!

This Little Piggy

I just completed the new sketch up today at Sketch Inspiration.   I got my hands on some new Pink Paislee "Daily Junque"!!  Susan picked it up for me at her LSS who was having a "30% off everything in the store" sale!  Gotta love a sale like that with all the new goodness in the store!  This line is so much fun for cutting little bits and pieces out of paper!  Along with the paper I got a package of the journaling notes and tags.  They will be so useful to use with many paper lines.

So here is a great shot of Thomas's toes!  Another amazing photograph taken by Auntie Carolyn.  I feel pretty proud to do a little boy LO with so much pink. ;)  Aphra does it all the time and I love it!

Here is the sketch.

I have recently stumbled across a new sketch site.  It is called Once Upon a Sketch.

They post a sketch every two weeks.  Along with the sketch, there is also a challenge regarding journaling.  For example, this week they ask for your LO to have at least 25 words journaled in hand writing.  I might give some of these challenges a go, as I am finding that I am not journaling much as of late.  I tend to forgo the long journaling if it effects the design.  I know that I will regret this one day.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  I'll be back tomorrow with a LO from The Scrappiest.

A Challenge

Happy Friday to all!  The sun is shining here and it is actually above freezing!  All is right in my world. :)  Susan and I decided to have another sisterly challenge.  We both love the new Cosmo Cricket line "Social Club".  Since we both have some of this goodness, we decided that the challenge would be to both use this line with this week's sketch at Creative Scrappers!  It was such a great one designed by Aphra.

Here is my take featuring little "Sweetie".  Check out that cute smile.  I had him trying on the hat that I bought for Thomas, just hoping that I could judge the fit.  Luckily it did fit Thomas. :) This LO is pretty muted for me.  Not my usual busy style.  I actually chose the calmer side of the papers.  Shocking!! ;)  FYI  Two more staples have been used!  hee hee

Here is the sketch!

Pop on over to Susan's blog to check out her take!
