It's My Pick

The Pop Gals are up again today at Scrap it With a Song.  When I applied for the Design Team, one of the requirements was to choose a song that I would like to see as a challenge.  My choice was "Fearless" by Taylor Swift.  I always thought that the line, "Capture it - Remember it" would be great on a LO.  Well, today my choice is being featured.  This terrific lyric was perfect for a title for this LO of Susan and her husband, Richard,  looking at the photographs that they had captured.

I broke out all kinds of Studio Calico for this one.  I love the look of the signature SC colour palette with B&W's.

Hope you'll give this song a listen!  Maybe it will inspire you too.  I'd love for you to play along with us!  :)

In other scrappy news, I spent yesterday afternoon moving my studio.   After months of going back and forth, I finally decided to take the plunge and move "stuff"  out of the small windowless back room to the main area of our basement.  Major perk here is natural light and lots of it!  The basement is a walk out so the windows are full size facing West.  That in itself makes it worth the move!  The next best thing is that I am close to the fireplace so it will be warmer in the winter months.  If I scrap in the evening, Rob can watch T.V in the basement and I won't feel like such a bad wife ignoring him for my art.  hee hee  But... there are also some negatives.  My desk is close to the patio door so the pups may decide that they should be let out about every three minutes.  :(  Sadly, all of my punches that sit in their shoe holder have to stay in the old room hanging on the back of the door because there is no door around to hang them on.  So the old studio will become the "exercise room" and house the treadmill.  Exercise.... what's that?  ;)  Maybe I'll take some photos tomorrow of my new space.

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen  :)

A "Woman" of Great Distinction

Nothing much scrappy going on around here so I have decided to come on and do a "Guilty Pleasure" post. Time for the great reveal.  I am a huge fan of Miss Piggy.  There, I said it! ;)

Although Miss Piggy was introduced in 1976, it all began for me in 1978.  That is when one of our two television channels (on our black and white 12 inch television) started showing The Muppet Show each Sunday evening.  Although I was thirteen at the time, it was an all time favourite for me and many of my friends.  Sometimes a walk over to my best friends was in order because she had a larger coloured television.  I know,  I sound ancient. ;)

On my bed sat my Miss Piggy Puppet doll wearing her fancy shiny purple frock and sporting the ever popular Farrah Fawcett hairstyle.  On my bedroom wall hung a hooked rug of Miss Piggy that my mother made me for my birthday.  Maybe it was Miss Piggy who started my love of the colour purple.

So what's not to love about Miss Piggy.  She is one feisty lady.  So let's have a walk down memory lane.

Miss Piggy is always up on all new and in style coiffures.  Here she is sporting the ever popular kinky permed look that Barbra Streisand brought in in the late 70's.

From frizzy to straight.  I'm thinking this must be around the mid 90's.  A bit of a Jennifer Aniston look, don't you think?  You know, she just never ages. ;)

Always the fashion diva in this classic dress.  Probably designer!  She really can pull off any look, ham hocks and all.

A natural on the runway too and all of the top fashion photographers are proud to have her gorgeous photos in their portfolio!  You know you have made it when.... ;)

Miss Piggy will be featured in the November Issue of a Canadian magazine called "Instyle".   I have seen her popping up on television and the internet because of this and I have to say that every time I see her, she makes me smile.  Here is a sneak peek.... from classic to sassy!

A post about Miss Piggy would not be complete without mention of the dear love of her life, Kermit the Frog or as Miss Piggy calls him, "Kermmie".   They apparently did eventually tie the knot in 2007,  I think.

So are there any other Miss Piggy fans out there?  Maybe it was Gonzo or Animal?   I'd love to know and am I the only one who has a hard time remembering that they are only puppets?

Time to go and down some more cough syrup or..... maybe I should ease up on the stuff.  (I am so losing followers. ;) )  hee hee

I'm Going to a Party ...

... a Pretty Paper Party that is!  Hosted by the very inspirational Shimelle!  No fancy party frock required.

I am so looking forward to being inspired to use up some of my beautiful paper stash.  It is my first time participating in an on-line class and I am thinking that it will add a fun spark to the next few weeks.

It starts tomorrow if you are interested.  All of Shimelle's on-line classes can be purchased after the fact.  You just don't have the excitement of waiting for the next prompt and contributing to the forum while it is happening, but everything else is there!

Nothing much creative going on around here.  I am three days into fighting my annual fall flu bug.  My body has a very specific way of adjusting to the cooler season coming in.  I have however,  spent a lot of time thinking about creative things that I really can't fathom having the energy to actually do.  hee hee  I also have given some thought to where my scrappy life is going.  Yes, scary visions of me in the old folks home surrounded by too many albums.  I am thinking that I need to channel this passion in a different direction.  Something that creates smaller creations maybe. Although I have said this before and it always comes back to my love of creating LO's.

I have also been watching lots of sports with the big guy.  Yay.... not!  From football to hockey and then to sports highlight shows to watch it all again. :(  Rob is not returning to work this week as expected.  I guess he was a bit delusional about his recovery period.  So there will be lots more football to be watched around here in the upcoming weeks.  ;(

We hit a new low today when we realized that someone had to do a load of laundry because we were running out of clean P.J.s.  You know your life is really boring when!  hee hee  Anyway, the laundry chore was a joint effort because Rob can't lift the economy size laundry jug!  Oh a glimps into our elderly years together.  The pups have pretty much forgotten what it feels like to go on a real walk.  It's good they have each other because every once in a while one of them will get a little energy overload burst and then they all chase each other around for a bit.

Hoping you are all having a fun and creative weekend and that the flu bugs have not found your households.

Scrap it With a Song Reveal

It is my first reveal at Scrap it With a Song.  The Pop Gals are up today with a new challenge and a fun one indeed!  Instead of a song as inspiration we have a photo inspiration.  Here it is!

Here is my take on it using some Jillibean "Homemade 6 Bean Soup" papers.

This album cover inspired me to make a sketch.  The four rectangular elements represent the white crossing lines on the road.  I repeated the theme of four in the scalloped borders to represent the four Beatles.  I placed my title in the upper left hand corner as was on the album.  I also wanted the theme of the LO to be movement to represent the Beatles walking.  Here is Little Thomas crawling!  Love this photograph of him!

So how does this vintage album cover inspire you? Sketch design options, colour palette or maybe even a favourite song from it.  Hope you check out Scrap it With a Song and play along with us this week!

Sweet and Sour Soup Anyone?

Today was a scrappy day for me and Susan!  It felt great to play again in the studio.  A LO documenting my recent cross stitching was the perfect subject for the Jillibean Soup "Sweet and Sour Soup" collection with a focus on stitching, sewing and quilting.  I am so excited that I can finally get my hands on all of the Jillibean Soup paper I want since finding this online store in Eastern Canada!

I used this sketch from Sketch Inspiration.

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen  :)

Correction:  I later realized that this is the "Homemade 6 Bean Soup" collection.  Sorry for any confusion.

Happy Thanksgiving!

It is Thanksgiving today here in Canada!  I hope that all of my Canadian bloggy friends are enjoying a wonderful long weekend with family and friends.

So what has been going around here?  Well, things are looking pretty harvest-y.  From flowers...

to ornamental pumpkins and gourds.

We had our turkey yesterday.  A nice little practice run for Christmas.  I even ventured into my kitchen long enough to make a pie!  Can't remember the last time that happened.  ;)

Then I shocked myself even further by making turkey soup.

(Hey, are any of my readers old enough to recognize the olive green pot circa 1975?  hee hee  The entire set was given to me second hand in the early 1980's from Robert's great-aunt.  This is the only one remaining and it is still my favourite pot!  Only small remnants of the olive green remain.)

So back to turkey talk.  It still amazes me how economical turkey is.  Tonight we are having Turkey Ann.  An easy recipe where you warm a mixture of leftover turkey, gravy and onions on thick garlic toast and then top it with cheese.  Yum!!

This weekend we also celebrated Diane turning 24!  My first born is not so little anymore. hee hee

With our weekend being so warm and sunny, Gus has been enjoying these last opportunities to warm himself on the balcony.  A toasty puppy he is!

The big guy is slowly on the mend.  Lady has been enjoying every moment of Rob relaxing on the sofa. She will miss him when he goes back to work next week.  His current job seems to be giving Lady head rubs at her demand.

The entire pack is loving that there always seems to be a big blanket on the sofa, as of late.  Doesn't get much better than this.  These pups have a tough life.  ;)

Needless to say, there hasn't been too much creative stuff going on.  I have been working on a couple of DT assignments but nothing that I can share yet. :(  Susan is coming over tomorrow and we plan on scrapping so hopefully I will have something to share soon.  I have some new Studio Calico papers that I just can't wait to cut into!  :)

Wishing you all a wonderful week with some scrappy time in it for you!

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen :)

I'm a Pop Gal and Some Cards

Some exciting news!  I made the Design Team for Scrap it With a Song!

The announcement is here.  I am so excited to be a part of this team.  I love the challenges.  They inspire me to journal more and to come up with some different titles.   The Pop Girls have their first reveal on October 13th.

Yesterday was spent working on cards.  A perfect activity for World Card Making Day.  I had so much fun playing along with some of the challenges at the Pink Paislee blog.

This challenge was to use a neutral colour paired with bright colours.  I scraplifted Danielle Flander's design here.  The chevron pattern was really fun to create.

This challenge was to use stitching as a focal point.  Of course I loved this one!

Next up was to create a shaped card.  I traced and hand cut the scalloped bottom border.

This challenge was to upcycle.  I love to use bits of packaging on my projects.  I used packaging from the "Daily Junque" and "Hometown" collections.

The last challenge I played along with was to use two mediums.  I used distress ink and splattered some Glimmer Mist.

These challenges sure put a spark in my card making day.  Now maybe I'll get inspired to get back on creating some more of my Christmas cards.

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen  :)

Time to Make Cards

Well it is that time again to seriously think about getting all those Christmas cards completed.  I am always grateful for this day which gives us this gentle reminder to get going!

Today I will attempt to do just this.  Make cards!!!

I have not been very scrappy as of late because the big guy had day surgery this week.  He has about a two week recovery period so since Wednesday I have been pulling out my mad nursing skills.  Not much time left for scrapping.  I don't dare escape to the basement as of yet.  I tend to lose track of time and I know I would end up accidently abandoning him!  Opps.  No pain pills for you.  ;)

But today..... I have found this fun challenge!  My plan is to pull my Pink Paislee goodies up to the kitchen table and make some cards!  There are lots of prizes to be had.  Yes I can take care of the big guy and work on these tiny projects!  It is all good.

On other crafty fronts, this down time has afforded me lots of time to work on my sampler and to knit my charity hats.   Last years woolies were all donated last week.  There were six bags of woolies gathered from the collective knitting of Susan,  our mother, my MIL and myself.  What a great feeling to know that we have helped some people to stay warm this winter.  Apparently we are in for another brutal winter like last year.  I refuse to see this as a negative and have purchased a really long down filled coat with a furry hood.  It is ugly but I will be warm!  Problem solved.

So I hope you all find some card making time this weekend.  Lots of challenges out there to help us get motivated and play along!

Happy Scrapping!!  Jen  :)
