Just Randomness

Nothing scrappy to share today.  Just random thoughts running around inside my head.   Last month was a hard one with so much loss and sadness.  We are still missing my Father-in-Law.  Although his death came as no surprise,  we still go through the mourning process.  My Mother-in-Law is doing so well.  I know that she grieves alone.  How do you go on after losing the man you shared your life with for 62 years?  Life gives us no choice but to get through the next day and hope that the days get easier.

My mother suffering a massive stroke on the very day that my FIL passed, took us totally by surprise.  There was no time to prepare for the change that we were about to see in her life.  The initial prognosis of my mother walking again and returning to her home was premature.  Sadly, my mother will remain paralysed on her right side and the left side of her brain has been compromised.   She is now waiting to be placed in long-term care.  It makes me sad that she will no longer be able to knit, to read a complicated novel, to move around as she wishes.  I feel that I am finally accepting this reality but  I am still missing the mother I had before this stroke.  I have lost her.

We visit my mother, and hope that she is having a good day.  We bring her flowers and we make her cards but it is hard to think of the hours in a day that she has to get through with nothing to do.  It will be better when she is placed in the home.  Then we can decorate her room and try to make it more homey.  We can bring her her big albums. I am sure that she is missing her anniversary album.  Right now she just has small make shift albums so she feels that we are there with her.  She misses not living with my father and he doesn't like living alone either.  They have lived together for almost 51 years.  Now they just have hospital visits.  It doesn't help that she is an hours drive away from me and Susan.  There is talk that she may be moved even further away from us temporarily, if a bed opens up in a long- term home in one of the neighbouring towns.  Then we will have a 1.5 hour drive.  Then my father will not be able to just pop up to see her.  He will be a half hours drive away, and he doesn't drive.  We will pick him up on the way when we visit.

The one thing that makes me feel better is knowing that my mother always makes friends easily.  She is a pleasant, caring, non-confrontational woman.  She is a listener and would hate to ever say anything to hurt a person's feelings.  I know that she will make new friends and this will make her life better.  Thankfully her speech has improved and she is getting speech therapy to help it even further.  Her ability to communicate is a blessing.

They say that bad events always come in threes.  Last week, our next door neighbour passed away very suddenly.  He was only 65 years old.  His wife came to our door one evening.  She had just left him at the hospital one hour previous.  She got the call from the doctor that he had passed and needed a lift back up to the hospital.  We witnessed her fall apart.  We saw what would be her worst nightmare come true.  All we could do was to hug her and tell her that we are right next door if she ever needs anything at any time.  Now the ladies on each side of me are widows.  We like them to know that Rob is here to help them with any guy things around the place.  He will power wash their houses and balconies and be on duty when garage doors decide to not shut.  I don't look forward to this phase of life.  I tell Rob that I get to go first.  In the end, we never get a choice though.  I have been with Rob since I was 18 years old.  I can't imagine my days without him.  I don't think that I will be a strong widow like the ladies I see around me.

So, I guess no one ever promised us that life would always be fun.  We still try to stay positive and find the good in each day.  There is always a silver lining.  We can always put things in perspective that things could be much worse.  Here's what is making me happy today....

Watching Jack slowly turn brown!  We have been leaving him treats of carrots.  I have yet to see him enjoy one.  He brings them over to my side of the condo so I can't see him from the window.

Working on my afghan.

A fresh lemon in my kitchen.  The greenest and cheapest way to freshen up an un-green garborator.  I'm sure these pollution makers will be out-lawed soon.

A spring towel in my kitchen!

And of course, looking down into these shaggy faces!

Before ending this long winded post, I just wanted to give a little update on how my CHA release purchasing has been going.  I am failing miserably.  You would think that with everything going on, I would have not bought a thing.  No.  I went the other way.  I tried to buy some happiness.  Don't we all learn in our early adulthood that we can't buy happiness?  Well, I must have digressed.  I did manage to temporarily focus my mind on something happy... scrappy stuff!

It is a bad sign when it is all just still sitting in bags.  :(  Now that I have finished my CSI assignments, I plan on breaking in to some of this stuff.  I am missing my scrappy life and my blog has been lacking.  Time to try to get back on track.  I think a giveaway is a step in the right direction.  Sharing makes me happy.  Be on the lookout in the very near future!  I'll try to put something fun together.  It may even be something from this CHA release.  After all, I have enough of it!  ;)

CSI Case #12

Here's the newest case up at CSI.

I love these shades of green and monochromatic palette.  I decided to scrap this self-portrait that I took for the February photo challenge.  It's me with my head in the clouds.  Not such a long stretch from the truth some days.... scrappy clouds that is.  ;)

Evidence:  flowers, clouds, silhouette design on glazed brad

Testimony:  journey of who I am this year, something unexpected to hold my journaling is cross stitches ( okay so it is not so unexpected for me.  lol)  and carried away with my journaling in that I put a lot of information down.

I have to say that I felt a bit out of my element with this LO.  I bought these Prima flowers specifically for this assignment.  What is it about Prima flowers that totally throws me off?  Some scrappers could not imagine a LO without them.  I always find it hard to balance other embellishments with them.  I was busy trying to smoosh them down too because they stand so high.  What would the avid Prima flower users say about that?  "No more Prima flowers for you!"

About those clouds.....  I have to thank Susan for the use of her cloud punches once again.  Susan spent a fortune on these babies with the shipping to Canada.  They have spent more time on my desk than on hers!  They are now safely back where they belong and I promise not to ask to borrow them for quite some time.... I think.  ;)  I even used the Cuttle Bug to emboss these little gems!

I stamped the "@47" with these amazing stamps from Graphic 45.

Here is the Page Maps sketch I used.

Another Friday ~ Another Case

Here's the newest case up at CSI.

I always think of anything scrappy in terms of manufacturer lines.  As soon as I saw this palette I thought of BG "Off Beat".  I finally had a reason to use the three year old piece of crazy bird paper!!  I LOVE this sheet!  And, being the bird geek I am, I had many bird photos to choose from to go along with this paper.

Evidence:  glimmer mist splatters, butterfly, string( floss and twine)

Testimony:  I used the word "wonder" as my title and the theme of my journaling.

I also used the sheet of paper with the small letters as inspiration from the photo.

I am proud to say that I splattered some glimmer mist on this LO.  I think I am an impaired splatterer.  It just scares me.  Too much lack of control.  I don't like things all willy nilly.  ;)  I have yet to mix up and use my collection of acrylic paints or my OA Sprinklers that I paid a fortune for.

On a side note, if you like the look of shipping tags you may want to head on over to Staples.  I bought 100 for less than $5.  So much bang for the buck.

Hope you will try cracking one of these cases!  They are quite the challenge but the end result is so worth it!  Plus,  you fall in love with your stash all over again.  I have a bunch of new stuff that I haven't even touched because I have been doing these challenges.  My troubles of mixing manufacturer lines is not an issue when I base a LO on a colour palette.

It's Here

Spring that is.  This morning I had my first official sign that it is clearly on it's way.  This couple was sitting out on the slough.

House hunters for sure.  Deciding where they will claim their spot and then wait for the ice to melt.

Then there was some discussion..... or should I say honking.

Then they spread their wings and flew away.

I hope they return.  I am excited to see this year's couple and offspring!

Good Morning Jack

It is funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most.  Lately,  I open up my bedroom blind each morning in anticipation.  More days than not,  this is what I see.

This jack rabbit sits against my neighbour's wall for hours most days.  There is an indentation in the rocks that mark his spot.

Now I don't think he is the Easter Bunny because he is not sporting a sparkly patchwork vest in a pastel palette.  ;)

His white winter coat didn't hide him too well this winter, as we had very little snow.  He will turn a brownish colour very soon to blend into our summer foliage.

Did you know that these rabbits are solitary creatures?  When you see a group of them together, it means it is mating time.

Well, that's today's random fact and silliness!

I have a new LO to share.  I am really enjoying being a "special investigator" this month at CSI.

Here is case #10!  Love this soft palette!

When I read that the testimony could be a story of motherhood, I was so happy that Rob had snapped those recent photos of me and Diane crocheting granny squares.  It was fun to document my joy of doing something crafty with one of my offspring!

The evidence is the use of the cloud, the metal heart, use of glazed and gem brads to represent glass and the use of contrasting textures.

I used a sketch by Kristine Davidson from her eBook.

It is a warm sunny day here in Alberta.  A good day to get the pups out for a walk despite the puddles they will track through and ensuing clean-up.  Diane is coming over for a grilled hamburger later on.  Feels like spring is on the way.  :)

A New Case

CSI has this week's case up, ready for solving.  I am on the "Special Investigators" team for March.

Here is my take featuring the cutest poodle I know.

Evidence:  text pattern, striped pattern, bird accent, translucent elements ( transparency, border punch, circular punch used in flower)

Testimony:  I journaled using a 6 letter memoir ~ "My sweet Lady ~ I love you."

I used this sketch from Creative Scrappers.

Hope you all have a great weekend.  Happy Scrapping!!  Jen  :)
