A Challenge

A few days ago while wondering around my local LSS I came upon a new challenge.  This is how it works.  Every month the store puts together a kit for purchase.  The challenge is to make a one page LO with the enclosed supplies and whatever punches or diecuts you may own.  Once the creation is completed it is brought back to the store where it is displayed.  The customers all vote on their favourite.  The winner wins something towards next month's kit.  Not sure if it is a coupon towards or a full kit.  Either way, this totally twigged my interest.  I love a challenge and I love the idea of doing something scrappy within my community.

Here is the kit.

Here is my LO.  I used one of my own sketches, as I wasn't sure if using an online sketch was allowed.

I have to say that it was some fun having a pile of goodies in front of me that someone else compiled.  I did add one piece of white card stock and some floss.  This challenge really encouraged me to find the potential in each of the supplies.  The only things that I didn't use were the small flowers ( no surprise there) and the chipboard from the tiny clipboards.

I cut clouds from the OA paper and pop dotted them onto the map circular element.  I cut out a strip from the Sassafra stamp patterned paper to resemble a book of stamps.  I stitched over the pink lines with red floss as I did not want pink in this LO.  I stitched a bit of yellow as I wanted to bring in this colour element and couldn't reach for a supply from my stash.

I used the clip from the chipboard clipboards and used some ribbon supplied in the kit.  I never use ribbon so this was a welcome change!  I used the transparency from the stamp and puched it out and layered it over a sunburst.  Good old lollipop flowers always make a big statement on a LO!

I decided to use the postcard reading, "happiness" as part of my title.  As not to waste the fun border element, I cut it up to use the off cuts elsewhere.  I wanted to be true to the kit and not reach for Thickers so I decided to use my Cricut to cut out the alphas.  To incorporate the use of the stamp into the design, I stamped overlapping onto one of the papers and then cut out the letters.  I love the random and original look of the alphas.  The banners are hand cut from the Girl's Paperie sheet.

So there you have it.  A fun scrappy time and one very patterned and busy LO as the end result!  Makes this scrapper happy!

A Colour Challenge

This month's colour challenge is up on Les Papiers de Pandore blog.  Such a beautiful palette.

Here is my take on the challenge.  Just can't get enough of the coral and yellow mix.  I dry embossed the shipping tag and did some layering to create the flowers.

I used this sketch from Pencillines.

Yesterday was one of those days when I was feeling creative and yet couldn't really settle into a project.    When I find myself like this it usually means that I am looking to start a new project.  This idea usually takes me to Michael's.  So off I went to look around and try to be inspired.  While admiring the many new yarns in the wool aisle, a lady showed me a ball of mint green fancy wool and asked me if I liked the colour for a scarf.  She showed me how this amazing wool knits into a ruffled texture and suggested that I check out the web site for instructions.  There I had my new project!

These are the colours I picked up.  The autumn palette is for Diane and the vibrant blue is, of course, for Lisa.  Notice how the yarn stretches apart to reveal a netted effect.

The pattern only uses 6 stitches and so it is a very quick project.  You knit into the top netting and then the rest of the netting cascades down to create the ruffled look.  Diane's was done by early evening and Lisa's was almost completed by bedtime.

Now I have the urge to run back to Michael's to look for more of this fun yarn.  Do I dare tempt myself with the possible entrapment into the knitting vortex?  ;)

Yesterday's restless mood also landed me at my LSS with a new designer challenge going on at the store.  More on that to come later.

Some Silliness

This just makes me chuckle and think of my crazy cat lady daughter, Diane.  Good thing Mo is not a scratcher.

It's That Time of Year..... Again

Didn't it feel like Winter CHA was just here?  Hard to believe that another CHA is upon us and with it a frenzy of sneak peeks of what will soon adorn our LSS shelves.  What is an addicted scrappy shopper to do?  sigh  Susan suggested to just not look at any of the peeks that have been released in the past week or so.  I knew this would never work.  I'm just not disciplined enough.  ;)  I told myself that I would not create a "Wish List" file containing images of scrappy goodness..... but, I did.  Next I decided that I would not talk about CHA on the blog.  Clearly, I'm failing at this.  I also said that there would be no posted photos on the blog of items that I am already drooling over.  Well, I'm breaking that resolution too.  Here is what has caught my eye!

Studio Calico is always a weak spot for me.  "Year Book" is calling my name.

Bright and yummy papers

amazing frames

cute pockets

and these amazing clips.

Then there is the Christmas stuff.  Yet another weak spot.  :(  Why do I love Christmas paper so much?  I don't even like Christmas that much!

MME  "All is Bright" makes me happy!

Pink Paislee "Side Walks" has a great vintage vibe!

The third problem area is when it comes to my favourite colour palette.... turquoise, gold and grey.  Then I spied this from Pink Paislee.... "Portfolio"!  Oh I just love it.  I can see it with black and white photos and it looks oh so classy!

The last major trouble spot for me is..... Crate Paper.  Oh my!!  I just seem to love everything that they come out with!

Acorn Avenue.  Oh I love the autumn theme and every sheet in this collection.

On Trend.  Vibrant and amazing.

Sleigh Ride.  Such a classic Christmas look and mixing cream and white... I love it!!

So this year I have decided to save face and not make any grand claims of not buying any of this stuff.  Who am I kidding?   I will try to be prudent but oh the paper addiction rages on within me!  Paper just makes me happy!!  So what are you drooling over?

Toi & Moi

I have a LO to share today using the "Invitation" collection from Les Papiers de Pandore.  I love the beautiful corals, greens and turquoise in this collection.

I created the flowers using my punches and embellishing with some glazed brads I had on hand. The butterfly was fussy cut from a sheet of paper.  It was fun to use a stamp written in french.  Adds a little interest to my LO and encourages me to try to remember some of the french I learned at school while growing up in Quebec.  I think I may need to brush off my french/english dictionary.  ;)

I used this sketch from Sketch Inspiration.

As our weather continues to be scorching, I find myself hiding in the basement and playing with paper. Today I got into one of October Afternoon's newer lines, "Cakewalk".  More than just for documenting  birthday parties.

This first LO is a scraplift from Marcy Penner, but much more busy.  I will never be able to pull off the minimal look that I am so attracted to.  I also lifted the subtitle, "Us 2".  Yes it was a full on lift of Marcy's wonderful inspiration.  You can see Marcy's amazing LO here.

Here is my version.  I was happy to document the close relationship of Lady and Susan.  How gratifying to be so loved by an 8.4 pound poodle.  ;)  The journaling was a bit long so I have it hidden in a velum envelope.  I also mixed in some papers from Studio Calico and Crate, as well as the awesome Jenni Bowlin stencil.

While on the subject of Lady, I decided to scrap this photo of her gazing lovingly into the camera.

I used this sketch from Page Maps.

Bargain Bin Collision

It was a happy accident and no one was hurt.  I took a morning trip down to my local LSS to kill some time.  We had a viewing of our condo this morning at 9 am and it was already 28 C at this point.  I needed a cool place to hide.  I spent some time meticulously picking through the paper sale bin.  There is always great finds, especially when stores are making room for new releases coming from Summer CHA.  When I got home,  I fanned the paper out to look at it.  This combination caught my eye and I was instantly inspired!

A lovely mix of Sassafras and BG.  I put my planned LO on hold and went to search for the perfect sketch to highlight that very colourful Sassafras sheet.  I have always loved this design and had it in my mind as of late.  The Studio Calico collection, "Abroad" which is designed by Sassafras has a sheet with this exact pattern but in a more subdued tone.  A quick scan through the stash  produced a lovely collection of embellishments.  Here is the LO.

Diane and Eric in Paris deserved a colourful palette and sparkly alphas.  ;)

Here is the sketch I used from Stuck? Sketches!

Hmm  What to do next?  It won't be cool enough to walk pups until late this evening.  I may just have to dream of my next LO.  :)

The Broken Wing

It is hot here in Alberta.  The perfect excuse to hide away in the basement and scrap the day away.  So I have another LO to share.

I have been mixing up manufacturer lines again with Heidi Swapp and AC's Amy Tangerine and Pink Paislee.  This LO features our neighbour,  Bryan and the story of his broken wing.  We have really been having too much fun teasing this fellow.

I used this fun sketch from Elle's Studio.

Hope you are all enjoying some great summer weather and getting some scrappy time in too.

Mixing Manufacturers

I had lots of fun today putting together this LO.  It started with the amazing green and grey floral print from the "Picadilly" collection by BG.  I decided to use some subdued grey patterns to offset this busy pattern.  I used a mix of MME and Studio Calico.  I added in the vibrant blue in embellishments.  The LO features our neighbour, Gloria.  We have known Gloria for years as she and Rob work together.  It has been nice being neighbours, as we get to chat often.

I used a sketch from Kristine Davidson's eBook.  I am slowly making my way through these sketches and enjoying every one of them.  I hope that Kristine continues to publish these gems.

Well that's all for today.  The mojo is in full force!  I am having so much fun finally getting into the product I purchased from the last CHA release.  I hope to be back soon with another LO to share.  There is a sketch up at Elle's studio that is calling my name. ;)

Playing with Picadilly

When Susan and I got together on Tuesday to craft, we made some card kits to assemble at a later time using "Picadilly" by BG.  Just sorting through these beautiful patterns motivated me to cut into more for some LO's.

First up, I chose greens, yellows and oranges to scrap this photo of this cute little Robin bird.

The design of this LO is scraplifted from a LO by Shimelle Laine that she did for Studio Calico.  She is the guest designer this month and is also doing a series of videos showing how she scrapped the main kit and all 4 add-on kits.  In true Shimelle style, I decided to add the line of bling under the title.  :)

This next LO features the reds and turquoise in the collection. It is one of my favourite colour combinations.  I  love this photo of Mo.  He really does look irritated with me.  This is not a Mo-ish behaviour at all.  ;)

This LO is based on a sketch from Kristine Davidson's eBook.

I'll leave you with an update on Mo's plight.  My beautiful grandkitty has been given a "furcut" by his mother.  ;)  Where is that beautiful boy now??

Oh, poor Mo.  In Diane's defense, he really needed this.  His mats were so bad that they were pulling his skin and leaving red marks.  I am looking forward to the re-growth but last I heard, Diane may continue this look for Mo.  :(  She says it is nice to only have to vacuum her sofa once a week.  Oh, furry Mo.

Carta Bella

Just when I think that the scrappy market is totally saturated,  a new company is introduced.   Carta Bella is a sister company to Echo Park.   Beautiful Moments caught my eye.  I love the golds in it but it is the bird illustrations that really sold me.  Always a sucker for anything bird related.

This border of birdies was the perfect touch for this LO featuring the female Red Winged Black Bird.

I used this week's sketch from Creative Scrappers.

Then I used the pink papers to scrap this photo of me having some computer time.

This LO is based on this week's sketch at Studio Calico.

Lastly, I broke out the Studio Calico "Abroad" collection to scrap this photo of Rob and my three furry friends.

Here's the sketch from Nadia Cannizzo for Handmade by Suzanne.

A special shout out to my "little Lisa" who turned 23 today!  My baby is growing up.  ;)
