I Love Fall!

It's fall!

The yard has been put to bed.

The BlueJays are being fed.

While most plants are getting ready for next year's blooms,

this plant is my late bloomer whose blossoms are appreciated more than any other in the yard.

The front porch has been set up to welcome in Halloween.

The twigs are summer's dried up Iris stems,

the pinecones were gathered from under a neighbourhood tree and the ornamental pumpkins were purchased at the grocery store for $3.23.

The best part is that it is all organic and can be put in the compost bin when winter arrives.

And... the puppies play amongst the leaves.

Happy fall!

The Summer Photo Challenge

For the past three summers I have been playing along with Rinda's  Photo Scavenger Hunt.  You can see this  summer's list here.  Susan played along also and we had big plans for an 8x8 album with both LO's and pocket pages. I mean we had the supplies bought and gathered!  Then Heidi Swapp came out with her new memory albums and we knew that they would be perfect for this challenge.  The best thing about this album was that it left lots of room to tell the story.  After all, that is what all of this memory keeping is all about.

Before I show you my favourite pages,  a couple of things.  First off,  I forgot to save the original photos so I am unable to share all of the photos that I captured for the hunt.  :(  Secondly and more importantly... anyone who has been following my blog knows that small canvases scare me some.  Well, that and wet mediums too.  ;)  This album was definitely tiny.  So I have to give a huge shout out to the Heidi Swapp design team for their inspiration and sometimes just flat out copying! I poured over all of their beautiful albums that showed such inspirational ways of using this album.

Here are some of my favourite pages.  Oh yeah, I used a mask and texture paste and it's official... I still hate using sticky messy stuff that I have no control over.  Okay, I'm just a bit OCD.  ;)

These cute little albums are available at Michael's and there is a variety of add on kits that have a variety of goodies as well as a stamp set.   I also added some other Heidi Swapp from my stash.  The only downside to working with this album was trying to hold it open as you worked.  It got worse towards the end of the album.

Susan and I have decided to play along with the challenge again next year.  After all, we need to make our 8x8 albums.... unless Heidi Swapp comes out with something new and amazing again.  ;)

I did one more LO with a photo of Lisa's cute little niece.  Her grandma took this photo at Lisa and Steve's wedding dinner celebration.

I knew I had some long scraps of paper left in my August kit from Treasured Memories and quickly jotted down this sketch when I had a few minutes before leaving to meet Rob for lunch.  No fancy technology needed,  just a scrap of paper and a pen.  This page was the perfect opportunity to use up some chipboard pieces from an older Page Evans collection.

Wishing you all a wonderful week!

Embrace Life

A quick post today before we head out to the yard for the annual fall clean-up.   Rob took this photo of me while we were on our nature walk last week.  I have decided that as I age, close ups look much better in B&W.  LOL

Here's the sketch I used from Citrus Twist.

With the cooler weather approaching we thought it wise to drop off the woolies we had made this past year to the inner city school we knit for.  Here are my hats..... and Maggie of course.  She is always by my side.

Time to start making some hats for next year!

One Fall Afternoon...

Rob and I decided to take advantage of the warm sunny weather.  We headed over to the Sherwood Park Natural Area for a walk along the trail.

It is 2.7 km of awesomeness.  We left the pups at home since Lady can no longer handle long walks.

It was so quiet that we could actually hear the leaves falling to the ground.

There is a horse trail that intersects with the walking trail.

We accidentally startled an owl as we approached and watched him quickly fly away, only seeing his tail end.  We saw a sparrow and watched a little toad hop off the path and into the shrubs.

Rob took lots of photos along the way.

This is my favourite capture of the day.  I'll be scrapping it for sure.

I am so grateful to have this paradise only a five minute car ride from my house.  Nature makes me feel happy and at peace.

Once we arrived home we took our furry little friends around the park for their walk.  They were happy but it makes me feel sad that the days of bringing them along are behind us.  Maggie would be fine with it despite her arthritic knee but Lady is now on two medications for her bum knee.  I feel bad to leave Maggie behind but would feel even worse to leave Lady home alone.  I have already been researching dog strollers for when Lady can't make it through the park.  Yeah, I'll be the crazy dog lady pushing her dog stroller through the park.  ;)
